Easy Strawberry Margarita Jello Shots in the Strawberries
How to Make Jello Shots in Strawberries
Happy National Tequila Day! That's right- people all across the country today are kicking back with margaritas in the name of being festive! With such a fun holiday, we knew we had to make something exciting for you guys- after all, what a better way to celebrate than with a "grown-up" shenanigan? After scrolling through endless margarita and tequila sunrise recipes, we came across these strawberry margarita jello shots and knew they were it.
Making jello shots in strawberries has some pretty practical benefits. Most importantly, there's no trash! You just eat the strawberry whole. Talk about eco-friendly! Plus, we had a feeling that this strawberry jello shot recipe probably tasted better than your average jello shot. And when all is said and done, you're technically eating a fruit, and therefore being "healthy," right? Also, there's a definite cute factor here: you're eating a teensy strawberry cup full of boozy jello! If you don't think they're cute yet, wait until you've had a few.
Just in time foryour tequila day festivities, here's how to make these adorable little guys:

Ingredients:
- a package of strawberry jello
- 3/4 cup of Cointreau
- 1 cup of tequila
- two packages of strawberries

First, cut the littlest bit off the tip of your strawberry so it will stand up.

Now, cut the top off of the strawberry.

Take care that you cut the top and bottom so that they are parallel to each other, so that the strawberry stands up straight.

Now core your strawberry. Take special care not to cut too close to the bottom so you don't make a hole in your strawberry.

Now clean out the inside of your strawberry as best you can. The goal is to get it to look like a tiny cup so that a fair amount of jello fits inside. The original pin used a melon scooper to do this step. If you have one, great! If not, you can just use a small knife like us and it will come out fine.

Now combine your jello mix with 3/4 cup of boiling water. Measure out 3/4 cup of cointreau and add that to the jello mix.

Now measure out one cup of tequila and add that to the mix as well.

Here's the tricky part. Line up your strawberries on a big plate or baking sheet and pour the jello mix in. We ended up with three or four strawberries that leaked because they had tiny holes in the bottom, so again, becareful when you're cutting your berries. Once that's done, carefully more them to the fridge.

After 45 minutes or so, you may want to top them off with any extra jello mix, because jello shrinks when it solidifies (fun fact).

Give them a couple hours to fully solidify and you're all done. Congratulations- you've made the cutest jello shot in existence! We decided to garnish ours with a tiny lime slice, but you don't have to go through the extra trouble if you don't want to. We also suggest rimming the strawberries with sugar before you serve them. Yum!

We were very pleased with how these turned out. They're certainly something different- we had never heard of strawberry margarita jello shots before, and we bet a lot of you hadn't either! These little alcoholic treats not only taste yummy, but they travel really well too. Kristen is taking them to the beach today and all she had to do was throw them in a ziplock with an ice pack in her lunch box!
These are definitely a perfect treat for National Tequila Day, but also as a pool-side treat for any hot, summer day! Why don't you give them a "shot?"

Check out some of our other summertime shenanigans!
